Creating Engineers 2024

This year we were delighted to host Glasgow Science Festival Creating Engineers competition at full capacity following a reduced scale version in 2023 due to COVID-19.
The competition ran in three stages, first was a Classroom Challenge held in each primary school classroom. The winners of this then went on to a Cluster Challenge competing against other classroom winners. Cluster Challenge champions were then invited to one of three regional finals hosted at The Bridge in Dumfries, Glasgow Clyde College, and the UWS North Lanarkshire campus. Contestants within the top third of their regional final were invited to the Grand Final to compete for the title of 'Glasgow Science Festival Creating Engineers Champions 2024'.
The final was held on Wednesday 29th May 2024 at Kelvin Hall.

The Grand Final

The title of Creating Engineers Champions 2024 was contested by 18 teams. The teams were challenged to build a rocket with transportation pod that had the following specifications

Your rocket must:

  • Be able to stand alone without your support
  • Be between 30-60cm tall
  • Include at least one cabin area for the astronauts

Your Transportation Pod must:

  • Have at least 3 wheels
  • Be able to support the weight of the rocket unaided
  • Have a steering mechanism which will allow the transporter to
    turn left and right
  • Have a locking mechanism which will ensure the rocket is secure
    when on the move

We saw a huge range of fantastic models from all pupils but eventually our team of judges crowned Noah and Calum from Hardgate Primary, Dumfries & Galloway the champions and Struan and Ally from Eaglesham Primary School, East Renfrewshire the runners up.

Huge congratulations to all teams who participated, especially our winners and runners up.
