CLAN
CLAN: Community Lead Ambassador Network
GSF received funding from the Scottish Government Talking Science fund for the first time in 2013 and again in 2014. This funding was awarded to Glasgow Science Festival (GSF) for the project titled 'Community Lead Ambassador Network (CLAN)' in order to liaise with communities and community groups within underserved parts of the city.
This lead to contacts and partnerships being made with 43 organisations from Possilpark/Maryhill, Drumchapel, Easterhouse, Govan, Shettleston and Cowcaddens.
2013
In 2013 the CLAN project was started with the goal of embedding ambassadors in communities across Glasgow. GSF collaborated with these groups to deliver 37 community events including, film screenings, astronomy themed family days, art classes, school science fairs and environmental workshops. Following these plans were put in place to host several more events after the CLAN funding had finished for the year.
2014
In 2014 GSF collaborated again with all of the same areas to ensure development with previous partners and but also new ones such as Anniesland, Springburn and Kinning Park to deliver 86 events.
The partnership between groups in Possilpark such as The Imaginarium and Concrete Garden led to the project A Shedload of Science. Shedload of Science at this point was a subset of the CLAN project focused in the Possilpark area, 30 of the 86 events delivered in 2014 as part of CLAN were Shedload of Science projects.
CLAN and Shedload of Science projects were the starting point for a long standing partnership between GSF and Concrete Garden in particular and many other events were hosted here including: Harry Potter & the Garden of Secrets and many appearances at Concrete Garden's annual Harvest Festival.
