One Health, which recognises the interdependencies of human, animal and environmental health, has long been adopted as a framework for addressing complex disease problems, including emerging and endemic zoonoses and antimicrobial resistance.  The COVID-19 pandemic has led to growing awareness among policy makers of the potential of One Health, but many questions remain as to how to apply and translate One Health concepts into more effective action for improving lives and livelihoods. In this presentation, Professor Cleaveland will share insights from a long-term One Health research programme in Tanzania to demonstrate some of the opportunities and challenges of One Health.  The presentation will discuss One Health in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals and illustrate the evolution of the approach from an initial focus on zoonotic diseases, such as rabies, to consideration of a broader set of intersecting issues, including use of land and natural resources, livestock health and food security, climate change and social justice.

This event is open to everyone, and we encourage staff, students and visitors to participate.
