Join us for an event for Doors Open Days at Fairfield Heritage, organized in partnership with Artemis Scotland, specialists in costumed interpretation and with the Ocean Modern project, University of Glasgow.
You will see Fairfield's maritime and shipbuilding displays afresh through the eyes of "Muriel" and "Jasper", who are attending the launch of Canadian Pacific's Empress of Britain in 1955 and plan to travel on the maiden voyage. Muriel, arrayed in her most glamorous tea dress, will advise you on the manners and etiquette expected at the royal launch and on board a transatlantic liner. She will even help you choose what clothes and books to pack. Come along if you would like to learn more about ships built at Fairfield and their heroic or disastrous fates, or to share your family's memories of ocean liners. Perhaps you even remember the launch of the Empress of Britain?
