The University of Glasgow’s sector-leading work in the field of reparative justice led to it being named the 2021 Times Higher Education University of the Year.
Our Historical Slavery Initiative follows the publication in 2018 of a report into the way the University benefited from the proceeds of slavery in the 18th and 19th centuries. It includes the establishment of a Glasgow-Caribbean Centre for Development Research with the University of the West Indies, scholarships for ethnic minority students, and a far-reaching programme of research collaboration focused on the Global South.
This programme has been regarded as an example of good practice by other UK institutions, some of which are now developing similar initiatives.
As an institution, we are continuing to make bold, values-based decisions, addressing challenges such as reparative justice, race and climate change.
