Dress Code & Acadmic Dress Hire
Dress Code
For your University of Glasgow graduation ceremony, regardless of your prior graduation status, it is essential to adhere to a formal dress code that befits the occasion. Please take note of the following attire guidelines:
→ Dark trousers and jacket, skirt, or a suit paired with a white shirt or blouse
→ White or dark dress
→ Dark shoes or boots
→ If you choose to wear a tie, it should be black
Additionally, please be aware that hats are not traditionally worn during our graduation ceremonies. While these ceremonies are indeed celebratory in nature, we maintain a formal dress code that reflects the significance of the event.
We also welcome the wearing of national or military dress, should you wish to do so, as part of this formal attire.
Academic Dress Hire
Graduands should wear academic dress (academic gown and hood) for their graduation ceremony. The colours of hoods vary depending on your award. A full list of hoods can be found on the Academic Policy & Governance webpages.
To secure your academic dress for the graduation ceremony, please follow these important steps:
-
Academic Dress Rental (gown and hood): You should make arrangements to rent your academic dress directly through Ede & Ravenscroft.
-
Early Booking: It is advisable to hire your academic dress as early as possible, and we recommend doing so no later than three weeks before the scheduled ceremony. Academic dress hire opens at the same time as enrolment so you can do this at the same time.
-
Order Confirmation: When collecting your academic dress on the day of the ceremony, please ensure you have a record of your order confirmation details readily available.
Should you have any questions or require assistance regarding your academic dress hire, we encourage you to reach out to Ede & Ravenscroft directly for prompt assistance.
Your academic dress is an integral part of the ceremony, and we appreciate your attention to these academic dress rental details to ensure a seamless and memorable graduation experience at the University of Glasgow.
