Study tours
The first afternoon of the conference (Wednesday 12 September 2007) is devoted to study tours of Glasgow and Edinburgh, giving participants an opportunity to see and hear about the challenges of delivering The Vital City in these contrasting locations.
After a prolonged period of deindustrialisation and decline, Glasgow is engaged in a major resurgence although it must still contend with a legacy of severe social deprivation. For Edinburgh, Scotland's capital, the challenges are rather different - managing the pressures of continuous economic growth in an environmentally and socially sustainable way.
Participants may choose from six Study Tours.
- Please note that there are limits on the numbers for each of these and that places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
- The tours will all depart from the Wolfson Medical School Building on the corner of University Place and University Avenue.
- In a slight change to previous timings, the Edinburgh tour (Study Tour 4) will leave at 12.30pm. All other tours will depart at 1.45pm - see pages below for details. Please arrive ten minutes before these times to ensure a prompt departure.
- Bus transport will be provided as appropriate with the exception of the walking tour which will begin by using the Underground.
