Professor Sako Musterd
Sako Musterd is Professor of Human Geography in the Department of Geography, Planning and International Development Studies of the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He teaches at undergraduate and masters level and supervises a large number of PhD students. Sako’s current research activities are in the field of segregation and social exclusion, research into neighbourhood effects, and the urban conditions for creative knowledge, as well as the relation between these issues. These topics are all addressed in large metropolitan areas in Europe and mostly in comparative perspective. He participated in many international research projects and acted as the co-ordinator of the EC funded URBEX project (on urban social exclusion and integration). Currently Sako co-ordinates the European ACRE project (accommodating creative knowledge: www2.fmg.uva.nl/acre/). He has written extensively on the subjects mentioned above (dare.uva.nl/author/musterd.s).
Sako Musterd also chairs The Netherlands Graduate School of Housing and Urban Research (NETHUR) in which the Universities of Amsterdam, Utrecht, Delft, Groningen, Nijmegen and Eindhoven participate. He is a member of international advisory and editing boards of the journals Urban Studies; Housing Studies; International Journal of Urban and Regional Research; and Population, Space and Place.
