Iain MacDonald
Iain Macdonald was born on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada to immigrant Gaels before returning to the Isle of Skye in 1989 where he was among the first children to be taught solely through the medium of Gaelic. As a native speaker, he has an interest in Gaelic related themes in literature, including the work of Sorley Maclean and Iain Crichton Smith.
Iain is currently undertaking the 2nd year of his PhD on the life and work of Fionn MacColla, which is due for submission in late 2009. As well as his work on MacColla, Iain also takes an interest in student politics and has recently been elected Post Graduate Convenor of Glasgow University’s SRC.
Iain is fortunate to have been allocated an office in the new Post Graduate study space in the University’s main building at 1 A The Square, situating him at the heart of the University’s research community.
