Keynote speaker
Our keynote lecture will be delivered by Emeritus Professor Kazuyoshi Takayama of the Institute of Fluid Science at Tohoku University, Japan.
He obtained his BS in 1963 from Nagoya Institute of Technology and his MS and Doctorate at Tohoku University in 1965 and 1970 on the subject of experimental and theoretical study of characteristics of shock tube.
His supervisor was Professor Mutsumi Honda who he acknowledges as his early mentor on shock wave studies.
He was appointed to the position of Assistant Professor at Tohoku University in 1970 and rapidly received promotions to Associate Professor and Professor in 1975 and 1986 respectively.
In 1977 he undertook a study leave period of two years at the University of Toronto Institute of Aerospace Studies (UTIAS), Canada, under Professor I.I. Glass.
In 1988 he became the Director of the Interdisciplinary Shock Wave Research Center.
In 1998 he was appointed Editor-in-chief of the Shock Waves Journal and Chairman of Japanese Shock Wave Research Society.
In 2000 he was elected President of Japan Society for Aeronautics and Astronautics.
For two years since 2002, he was Chairman of the Aero-ballistic Range Association.
In 2006, he initiated the International Shock Wave Institute and was elected as its first president.
In 2000 he was awarded the Ernst Mach Medal, in 2006 he was awarded the Leonardo Da Vinci Award and in 2008 he became Honorary Member of the Japan Society for Aeronautical and Space Sciences.
