Women wanting children face difficult questions. When is the right time in their life? Have they found the “right” partner yet? Will having children early affect their career? Recent advances in technology have increased the popularity of egg freezing, which some believe may help ‘insure’ women against future infertility. Once reserved for women at risk of infertility from cancer, egg freezing is now offered for social reasons. However, with new opportunities also come new risks. We will delve into the science of egg freezing, examine the impact it is having on women, and look into the future at how it may change society.
