Short Description
This course will develop students' knowledge and understanding of the research process from appraisal of related literature, research design, ethical approval, through to data management and analysis. Routes of research dissemination will also be explored including delivery of oral presentations, preparing posters, and writing for publication.

Assessment
Part 1: Author a research proposal for a research project that you have designed (3000 words, 70%).
Part 2: Translate your research proposal into a poster format and present this to your peers (30%).
Course Aims
This course aims to develop students' knowledge and understanding of the full research process and how it can be applied to create a research proposal, including appraisal of literature, research design, ethical approval, data management and data analysis. The course also aims to develop students' confidence in disseminating research including oral presentations, posters, and writing for publication.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ Identify a research topic and translate this into an appropriate research question.
■ Design a research project to answer a research question and translate this into a research proposal.
■ Evaluate specific ethical considerations associated with research and describe these within a research proposal.
■ Critically appraise published research on a topic within a research proposal.
■ Translate research into a format suitable for dissemination.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
