Short Description
This is an entrance-level course introducing students to biblical literature and interpretation. Creation to Apocalypse leads students on a whirlwind tour through the whole of the Bible, with particular attention to the stories that have played prominent roles in art, literature, politics, music, and popular culture.
Timetable
Lectures: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 9am; weekly one hour seminars (choice of times).

Coursework: one 1500 word essay (50%)
Examination: one 90 minute exam (50%)

Course Aims
This course will provide students with the opportunity to:
■ explore the main themes and texts of the Old and New Testaments
■ identify the basic chronologies and contexts behind these texts
■ discuss the basic critical issues and concepts involved in interpreting biblical texts.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ identify the main themes and texts of the Old and New Testaments
■ fit these themes and texts into basic chronologies and contexts
■ carry out their own research in relation to simple focussed tasks
■ assess and present information related to specific discussion tasks.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
