Short Description
This course provides an opportunity to develop existing knowledge gained during Year 2, by defining research, exploring what methods research comprises, and how research can influence practice. The Appraising Research for Evidence Informed Practice (AREIP) course provides students with an understanding of critical appraisal of research methods to develop critical thinking and decision-making skills around application of research evidence in practice.

Requirements of Entry
To enter Year 3 of the BN (Hons) programme, students must have achieved a minimum of Grade D for all components of summative assessment including practice learning and achieved all the NMC platforms and proficiencies required for Year 2.

Course Aims
This course aims to build on students' earlier learning related to research for evidence informed practice from Year 2 by further developing students' critical thinking and decision-making skills around identification of best available research evidence and its application to practice.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
1. Critically explain the methodological quality of different research types, methods, and procedures.
2. Synthesise research evidence to identify its contribution to knowledge in relation to a healthcare topic.
3. Apply knowledge and critical thinking to evaluate the clinical and scientific value of research evidence.
