Short Description

The portfolio is an independent student-led project developed under the guidance of a supervisor. The portfolio normally comprises several compositions in notation-based or electroacoustic media, accompanied by a critical and reflective commentary.

Course Aims

This course aims to:

■ develop students' individual creative identity

■ enhance students' independence in honing creative and critical perspectives

■ enable students to explore in greater depth issues and practices covered elsewhere in the programme

■ create a body of work that can prepare students for building their careers beyond the end of the programme

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ work independently to plan and create a substantial portfolio of creative musical work

■ deploy rigorous technical, design, experimental and evaluative processes in realising original musical outputs

■ deploy advanced technical skill and aesthetic judgment in creating and manipulating sonic materials, forms, media and processes

■ apply critical evaluation, reflection and analysis to their own creative practice, relating it to appropriate contexts and concepts

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
