Short Description

The portfolio is an independent student-led project developed under the guidance of a supervisor, embodying a process of investigation undertaken through practice research. The portfolio normally comprises several sonic or audiovisual art works or artefacts in relevant media, software and/or hardware, accompanied by a critical and reflective commentary.

Portfolio of Sonic Art of AV artwork (20 minutes) - 80%

Collection of documentation (such as sketches, photos, videos, performance materials, other evidence of experimentation) and critical writing (2000 words) - 20%

Course Aims

This course aims to:

 

■ enable students to innovate in practical work and develop their individual creative identity

■ enhance students' independence in honing creative and critical perspectives

■ enable students to explore in greater depth issues and practices covered elsewhere in the programme

■ provide students with a skill set and a body of work to help build their careers beyond the end of the programme 

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

 

■ work independently to plan and create a substantial portfolio of creative practical work focusing on sonic and audiovisual media as culturally significant forms

■ deploy appropriate technical, design, experimental and evaluative processes in realising sonic or audiovisual artworks

■ deploy technical skills and aesthetic judgment effectively in working with sound and technology

■ document and apply critical evaluation, reflection and analysis to their own creative practice, relating it to appropriate contexts and concepts

■ plan and complete a substantial practice research investigation

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
