Short Description
This course explores aspects of advanced translation practice and theory, extending the knowledge and skills explored in Translation Studies in Theory and Practice. It focuses on aspects such as the use of relevant software packages, the translation of specific discourses and genres, and elements of commercial practice.

Response to set reading (1000 words) - 20%
Essay or reflective essay (4000 words) - 80%
Course Aims
This course aims to:
■ examine concepts and issues in translation theory and practice, focusing on specific genres and discourses
■ introduce students to concepts and practices in the professional field of translation
■ apply such concepts and ideas to translation practice
■ explore and examine the use of computer aided translation tools and other translation technologies
■ evaluate the use of standard reference tools
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ critically analyse the professional translation environment using relevant theories of translation
■ critically analyse examples of translation from the areas discussed in the course in relation to relevant theories
■ evaluate the use of relevant translation technologies in the area(s) of translation under discussion
■ develop a sustained written argument that draws upon relevant sources
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
