Short Description
Contributing to the MSc Translation Studies programme (Nankai), this course consolidates advanced translation research methods and helps students to develop their advanced writing skills. The course focusses on skills such as developing rigorous research questions and formulating a clear research proposal. Students will be expected to engage critically with a range of theoretical models in Translation Studies.

Course Aims
The course aims to:
■ equip students with the research skills required to critically evaluate literature in a particular area in the discipline of Translation Studies;
■ critically apply the intellectual and scholarly foundations from the field of Translation Studies to their research;
■ enable students to formulate and plan research projects on a topic within a specific area, with reference to research themes and questions characteristic of work in the field of Translation Studies;
■ allow students to consolidate their advanced academic writing skills.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ formulate research questions that reflect in-depth knowledge and systematic understanding of the discipline of Translation Studies;
■ contextualize, evaluate and critique relevant scholarly literature in the field;
■ identify research problems and outline appropriate, creative and innovative solutions;
■ address complex issues related to the field of study in writing.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
