Short Description

This course will cover the basic areas of strategic management, with an emphasis on the application of these concepts. It will help students to become familiar with strategic management concepts in order to apply these with a business logic to case studies, which will be assessed and the recommendation presented to the class.

Assessment

In-course assignment (case study presentation) (25%) and individual report based on one of the case study presented in class (75%).

Course Aims

To become familiar with strategic management concepts and apply them to case studies. This course sits at the core of level 3 and it has an applied emphasis to strategic management. The knowledge transferred in the course comprises basic strategy concepts.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

1. Recognise the importance of strategy to an organisation's sustainable competitive advantage.

2. Evaluate an organisation's external and internal environment by using strategic management concepts.

3. Formulate and explain the strategic choices that an organisation may adopt for sustainable competitive advantage by using case studies.

4. Recognise and explain the impact different organisational actors may have on an organisation's strategic direction.

5. Develop oral presentation and group working skills.

 

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
