Short Description

This course offers students the opportunity to build on their existing knowledge base of child public health, mental health and behavioural problems and child protection. Students will have the opportunity to learn from a wide range of paediatric specialists who will suggest a focused and practical approach to commonly encountered paediatric problems within these specialist areas.

Course Aims

The aim of this course is to foster an enhanced understanding of the principles and application of child public health in daily practice, and to develop a structured approach to problems in child protection and child mental health.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

■ Demonstrate a critical understanding of childhood health promotion, screening and immunisation.

■ Critically appraise the external factors which influence policy implementation and management.

■ Deal with complex ethical and professional issues and make informed judgements on clinical dilemmas.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
