In this course, students will further explore approaches to teaching and assessing clinical skills, and the associated governance.

Assessment

Essay relating to theoretical or design aspects of delivery and/or governance of teaching and assessment in clinical skills (50%) - 1800 to 2500 words. ( ILOs 1 and 4)

Weekly posts to online discussion forum (50%) - max 4000 words. ( ILOs 1, 2, 3 and 4)

Course Aims

This course aims to give students the opportunity to explore in more depth the teaching and assessment of clinical skills, and relevant issues in, and mechanisms for, governance.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

1. Apply core principles and current theories of learning and teaching to the design of teaching in clinical skills;

2. Critically evaluate various assessment strategies and tools to assess performance in clinical skills;

3. Design assessment tools/tasks that assess performance in clinical skills;

4. Critically discuss governance issues and mechanisms specific to the teaching and/or assessment of clinical skills.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
