Short Description

This course covers general issues in environmental law. It will consider the International and European background to environmental law as well as substantive Scottish environmental law.

Timetable

10 x 2 hour lectures plus 5 x 1 hour tutorials.

Thereare no prerequisites for entry, however the course will be only be open to LLB students.

75% final exam, 25% essay.

Course Aims

The aim of the course is to give students a good critical understanding of Scottish environmental law in its European and international context.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of the course students will:

■ be able to understand and explain the basic principles of environmental law and the International and European context.

■ be able to understand and explain the law relating to a number of substantive topics of environmental law including waste, water, nuisance, contaminated land and climate change.

■ be able to understand and explain the variety of methods used to promote environmental protection and the current regulatory framework for environmental law;

■ have developed their analytical and problem solving skills in relation to the topic;

■ have developed their written and oral communication skills.
