Short Description
This course is a Gaelic language immersion course which can be taken as part of a pre Gaelic MA Hons programme. The course will study contemporary Gaelic literature and grammar and will develop written competency in the Gaelic language.

7 x 1 hour seminars per week over 20 weeks as scheduled on MyCampus;
Requirements of Entry
Grade C3 or above in Gaelic 2 Advanced (GAELIC2001) or Gaelic 2 Intermediate (GAELIC2003).

Assessment
Two x 10 minute oral presentations on contemporary Gaelic literature - 30%
Two x 1400 word essays in Gaelic - 40%
Ten written language exercises - 20%
1 class test (50 minutes) - 10%
Course Aims
This course aims to:
■ Increase fluency in Gaelic
■ Provide students with an opportunity to become more accurate and articulate in spoken Gaelic
■ Develop in students an appreciation of the variety of Gaelic dialectal styles and registers in spoken communication
■ Increase students' familiarity with the varied forms of contemporary Gaelic literature and history, Gaelic song and Gaelic culture
■ Encourage the development of transferable skills by fostering individual research, presentation and self-reflection initiatives
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ Communicate effectively, confidently and precisely in written Gaelic, in a range of registers.
■ Write pieces of sustained prose in Gaelic on a range of contemporary issues.
■ Present confidently in Gaelic on subjects of their choice.
■ Give a detailed account of a project relating to Gaelic literature
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
