Short Description
This course is a Gaelic language immersion course which can be taken as part of Gaelic Immersion Cert HE programme. The course will study contemporary Gaelic literature and culture and will develop oral competency in the Gaelic language.
Timetable
7 x 1 hour seminars per week over 10 weeks as scheduled on MyCampus.
Requirements of Entry
B1 level on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) or equivalent knowledge of Gaelic.

Assessment
1 x 5 minute oral presentation (20%)
10 minute oral exam (30%)
5 listening and comprehension exercises (20%)

Course Aims
This course aims to:
■ Increase fluency in Gaelic
■ Provide an opportunity to achieve a higher degree of accuracy and literacy in spoken Scottish Gaelic
■ Develop in students a greater appreciation of the variety of Gaelic dialectal styles and registers in spoken communication
■ Increase students' familiarity with contemporary Gaelic literature, Gaelic song and Gaelic culture and history.
■ Encourage the development of transferable skills by fostering individual research, presentation and self-reflection initiatives
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ Communicate effectively, with a high level of confidece and precision in spoken Gaelic, in a range of registers.
■ Present confidently in Gaelic on subjects of their choice.
■ Present a portfolio of digital artefacts on contemporary and historical issues.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
