Short Description
This course is designed to give the student a basic understanding of the various mechanisms of heat transfer. The course will also provide the student with an understanding of heat exchangers and how such items of equipment are designed.

Course Aims
This aims of this course are to:
■ give the student a basic understanding of the various mechanisms of heat transfer;
■ provide the student with an understanding of heat exchangers and how such items of equipment are designed.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ analyse various heat transfer problems;
■ determine the amount and rate of heat transfer in simple systems;
■ design simple heat exchangers;
■ solve basic heat exchanger problems;
■ calculate the required heating or cooling load to maintain an environment at a desired temperature.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must attend the degree examination and submit at least 75% by weight of the other components of the course's summative assessment.
Students must attend the timetabled laboratory classes.
Students should attend at least 75% of the timetabled classes of the course.
