Short Description

This course provides students with the opportunity to develop an understanding of transformative teaching approaches for adults. Students will learn about collaborative and creative approaches that promote learning for positive social change within communities. Students will examine barriers and motivations for adult learners, learning about ways to enhance their full potential to learn as individuals and in groups.

Assessment

Assignment 1: Group Task. Design and deliver a Teaching Session - 40%*

Assignment 2 - 2000-Word Reflective Essay about transformative approaches to adult learning and the role that educators play - 60%

 

*Students will be well supported to work in groups for Assignment 1. They will receive clear guidelines on the task, they will be guided on how to successfully achieve the task, while working in the group. They will be required to set group agreements to mitigate against potential conflict that might arise through working as a group. They will have time within scheduled classes to prepare for the assessment, under the guidance of the Class Lecturer. The weighting of 40% reflects the amount of work and effort that the students will invest in the task.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this unit students should be able to:

 

LO1 Articulate approaches to adult learning that promote positive transformation within communities

LO2 State methods of facilitating learning in a range of contexts that enhance the participation and engagement of adult learners

LO3 Understand the barriers for adult learners

LO4 Identify ways to overcome intrinsic barriers for adult learners

LO5 Design, plan and deliver an adult learning session suitable for a range of contexts

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
