Short Description
The course deals with the importance of reading in early years for the psychological, cognitive, emotional and sociocultural development of children. Thus, various aspects of literary material and psychological features of this type of literature will be covered. It includes children's literature of the 20th and 21st century through the analysis and the selection of all type of genres.

Assessment
The students design a Reading Programme for early years: selecting, analyzing and justifying the choice books and the oral materials. Guidance is provided for the presentation of the programme.
Course Aims
The aim of the course is to enable students to understand and present the characteristics of children's literature (0-8), to know their historical evolution, and to use all these to analyze, select, read and promote this corpus in educational and familiar contexts.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
-To demonstrate an understanding of and appreciate the characteristics of literature and books for young children.
- To demonstrate an understanding of the importance of reading to young children under the psychological, literary
theoretical and practical framework.
- To describe an historical panorama and evolution of this type of literature and books.
- To demonstrate understanding of the role and the importance of oral culture to initiate
children into the poetic and narrative language and literature.
- To create an presentation on contemporary production for early ages as well as the main international stakeholders.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
