Assessment

A dissertation between 20,000-25,000 words that will provide students with an opportunity to undertake a supervised research exercise.

Course Aims

To provide students with an opportunity to conduct a supervised research exercise that involves examining literature, gathering relevant data and analysis of findings in an educational context.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ Produce a research proposal for undertaking a clearly defined research project

■ Critically review the significance of wider knowledge in the field, present in the secondary literature that is relevant to your chosen topic

■ Implement a coherent methodology of data collection or conceptual argument demonstrating an awareness of alternative research strategies and theoretical approaches and using techniques appropriate to your subject of investigation

■ Present your research data and conceptual argument, as appropriate, in a clear and concise manner.

■ Critically analyse and evaluate the significance of original research data and other conceptual work in the field, as appropriate in the context of other relevant research in your field of study

■ Employ standard conventions for referencing and bibliography consistently whilst avoiding plagiarism

Apply ethical procedures for collecting data.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
