Short Description
This course explores formal/non-formal and informal learning content and approaches for 'cradle to grave' museum visitors. The course will focus on social, historical, artistic and scientific educational opportunities in and through engagement with museum collections.

Assessment
There will be one 100% summative assignment consisting of a 15min presentation (8-10 slides).
Successfully identify and orally present an appropriate museum/heritage collection or object for a target audience, identifying 3 learning outcomes and appropriate teaching approaches to promote cultural, social, artistic or scientific learning for a formal/non-formal or informal context. Presentation should contain 6-8 slides (equivalent to 15 mins) and should make reference to relevant theory and policy that support choices and decisions.
Course Aims
This course aims to provide participants with the opportunity to develop extensive, detailed and critical knowledge and understanding of how museum education theory and museum objects/collections can act as a stimulus for subject specific and interdisciplinary learning within local and global curricular contexts.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
LO1 Critically define and analyse how engaging with objects in the museum context supports and enhances learning in a progressive and coherent way in relation to a range of subject fields.
LO2 Apply critical analysis and evaluation to a range of pedagogies in order to identify their value in relation to effective learning, in and through the museum.
LO3 Critically apply museum theory and policy to justify practice-based decisions.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
