Short Description

Education in Practice is where educational theory and practice combine. Education in Practice 4 extends knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning in relation to inclusive education. This course examines the underpinning purposes of practitioner enquiry and the development of professional learning and practice. Key educational themes are pursued across each of the four years with increasing demand and complexity as the degree progresses.

Assessment

This course will be assessed by means of a written assignment: an essay exploring practitioner enquiry in respect to inclusion, which demonstrates the student's knowledge of educational and learning theories and the importance of research in professional development and lifelong learning.

Are reassessment opportunities available for all summative assessments? Not applicable for Honours courses

In accordance with the University's Code of Assessment reassessments are normally available for all courses, except those which contribute to the Honours classification. For non Honours courses, students are offered reassessment in all or any of the components of assessment if the satisfactory (threshold) grade for the overall course is not achieved at the first attempt. This is normally grade D3 for undergraduate students. Any such exceptions for this course are described below. 

Course Aims

The aim of this course is to support students with planning, preparation, delivery and evaluation of a school curriculum which is underpinned by their knowledge of educational and learning theories with a specific focus on inclusive education. A range of enquiry methods are examined to support and develop students' knowledge and understanding of the processes involved in a practitioner enquiry as part of lifelong professional learning.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

1. Explore inclusive education from historical, political and cultural perspectives 

2. Critically analyse pedagogical perspectives in relation to inclusive education 

3. Exhibit an emergent understanding of research, its contribution to education and know how to access and review relevant research in developing inclusive practices through practitioner enquiry

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course summative assessment.
