Short Description
The course aims to facilitate the acquisition and integration of a knowledge base to provide the student with academic knowledge and clinical skills to enable them to provide appropriate treatment to patients with primary endodontic disease. During the course, students will be asked to demonstrate a range of clinical and technical skills pertinent to the provision of root canal treatment.

Course Aims
This course aims to provide the academic knowledge and clinical skills to enable them to clearly identify the rationale for the use of materials, instruments and medicaments in undertaking root canal treatment as well as to enable them to provide non-complex endodontic treatment for adult patients with compromised dentitions
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
1. Critically evaluate and apply the principles of treatment planning in patients requiring root canal.
2. Critically evaluate the necessity for 'whole patient care' in patients with endodontic problems.
3. Evaluate and select the appropriate materials used in root canal treatment procedures.
4. Critically appraise technological techniques required for root canal treatments.
5. Critically evaluate and apply procedures to access and disinfect root canals.
6. Critically evaluate and apply the appropriate clinical endodontic procedures.
7. Critically evaluate the literature pertaining to primary root canal treatment.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment as well as pass the clinical skills competencies.
