Short Description
This course is designed to equip participants with a broad understanding of risk management techniques and financial instruments used in managing financial risks for financial and industrial firms. The course provides knowledge and analytical skills required in managing risks, trading financial assets and appreciating regulatory supervision of financial institutions. It focuses on market risk and introduces some aspects on credit and liquidity risk in banks. The tools introduced during the course will enhance some basic understanding of statistics.
Timetable
The course will be delivered 18 hours of blended sessions (8 hours of lecture, 6 hours of seminar and 4 hours of workshops) over three weeks where students are presented theory and applications; it includes asynchronous learning activities. Practitioners from the financial industry will be guest speakers during lectures.

Course Aims
This course aims to equip participants with current knowledge to assess risk management techniques and financial instruments used in managing financial risks for financial and industrial firms.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
1. Compare and recommend quantitative techniques to estimate and hedge market and credit risk in banking.
2. Assess the effects of the introduction of Basel regulation to the banking industry.
3. Describe the mechanisms related to Counterparty and Funding Risk in banking.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
