Short Description

This course will provide evidence-based advanced practical training in using databases, software, and web services to analyse data, create mashups and visualisations of biodiversity data.

Timetable

The course normally consists of 8 hours of classroom sessions and two days of fieldwork over two weeks.

Desk-based preliminary ecological assessment (60%) (Max 1500 words)

Community information session presentation (40%) (5-7 Minutes)

Course Aims

This course will provide students with a broad overview of topics related to habitat creation, restoration and monitoring. This will include practical habitat assessment and identification skills in addition to transferable writing and communication skills relevant to a wide range of future roles in conservation and related industries.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

1. Critically appraise the likelihood of species' presence in a given area based on habitat features.

1. Critically discuss topics related to habitat creation and monitoring.

1. Apply a range of communication skills in engaging with different audiences

 

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
