Short Description
This course will focus on key areas of cellular biology where chemical biology techniques are particularly applicable, namely the redox processes involved in protein folding and mitigating the damage caused by reactive oxygen species.

Assessment
Written assignment (aproximately 2,500 words) on a selected area of redox biology.
Course Aims
This course aims to:
■ Provide students with in-depth knowledge and practical experience of current techniques used to study protein folding machinery within key organelles.
■ Develop student understanding surrounding the importance of oxidative stress as a source for signalling molecules.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students should be able to:
■ Critically discuss the role of redox processes within protein folding
■ Critically evaluate the current techniques use to study the protein folding machinery of the endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria.
■ Evaluate the role of redox process on cellular homeostasis.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
