Short Description

In this course you will have the opportunity to develop and use your language skills flexibly and effectively in complex and abstract topics at a social and professional levels. You will polish and perfect the qualitative aspects of the language to help you express yourself with clarity, precision and accuracy, as well as gain a deeper awareness of the cultural aspects of the language and its speakers.

 

During this course, you will be working towards level C1 of the Common European Framework.

Requirements of Entry

This course is recommended for learners who are already independent users of the language and want to develop proficiency skills, having completed an Upper Intermediate course or reached level B2.

Assessment

Practical skills tasks evaluating students' competence on how well productive oral (25%) and writing (25%) skills are performed.

 

Set exercises designed as questions or tasks intended to assess the application of knowledge in receptive listening (25%) and reading (25%) skills in the foreign language.

Course Aims

This course aims to: 

■ Develop a level of proficiency to be able to explore a wide range of demanding, longer texts and recognise implicit meaning; 

■ Enable learners to follow extended speech in less familiar matters and express themselves with a high degree of fluency and spontaneity in social and professional environments; 

■ Provide opportunities to expand their existing knowledge to produce clear, well-structured texts on complex subjects in a coherent and cohesive manner 

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ Express themselves fluently and accurately on a wide range of topics providing quite detailed argumentation in complex subjects; 

■ Follow standard spoken language and a range of idiomatic expressions in a wider variety of fields; 

■ Read detailed, complex texts in their areas of speciality and beyond; 

■ Write clear, coherent, well-structured texts for a variety of audiences.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
