Short Description
This course examines the representation of Mary Magdalene in early Christian traditions. The key topics cover the representation of Mary Magdalene in the New Testament, the Gospel of Mary and Gnostic writings. The course includes short lectures, group discussions and close readings of selected texts.

Course Aims
This course aims to:
■ Provide students with the opportunity to study the representation of Mary Magdalene in early Christian traditions
■ Introduce students to key sources and encourage discussion of how we might interpret them.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ Identify key features in the representation of Mary Magdalene in early Christian texts
■ Evaluate the legacy of Mary Magdalene in the development of early Christianity
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
