Short Description

This brief course will consider the ongoing work of the Biden Presidency and the challenges it faces in achieving its goals and dealing with change in America after the Trump years. Considering a wide range of topics from the domestic to the international, we will examine how President Biden and his team have engaged with Capitol Hill, the Republican Party, other Democrats, State Governors, and the wider world. Have Joe Biden and America moved on from the 'former guy' and if so how?

Assessment

Poster (600 words including graphics) using images and text to depict one of the current administration's stated objectives plus the advantages and obstacles it faces in contemporary US domestic politics (including the federal system and congress) (75%).

 

Oral presentation by the student recorded as a short audio file (5 min) or submitted as a written commentary (500 words) reviewing the efficacy of this presidential goal in contemporary US domestic politics (including the federal system and congress) (25%).

Course Aims

This course aims to:

■ Introduce students to the key stated objectives of the current US Presidential Administration. 

■ Provide students with insight and analysis as to the advantages and obstacles the current administration faces in the context of contemporary US domestic politics (including the federal system and congress).

■ Invite students to review and discuss the effectiveness of the Biden Presidency in achieving these stated goals.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ Identify and describe the key stated objectives of the current US Presidential Administration.

■ Describe and discuss the advantages and obstacles the current administration faces in the context of contemporary US domestic politics (including the federal system and congress).

■ Review and explain the efficacy of the current and debate US presidential administration in achieving these goals.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
