Short Description
In this course you will develop basic communication skills in the language, learning how to greet people, exchange personal details, talk about yourself and your daily life, as well as interact in common everyday situations (shops, restaurants, hotels, etc.). You will also develop basic cultural awareness of the areas where the language is spoken.
During this course, you will be working at level A1 of the Common European Framework.

Assessment
Practical skills tasks evaluating students' competence on how well productive oral (25%) and writing (25%) skills are performed.
Set exercises designed as questions or tasks intended to assess the application of knowledge in receptive listening (25%) and reading (25%) skills in the foreign language.
Course Aims
This course aims to:
■ Introduce learners to basic, familiar everyday expressions and very simple phrases to satisfy very specific needs;
■ Familiarise learners with the language required to be able to give and request personal information of themselves and others;
■ Provide learners with opportunities to interact in a simple way with other speakers of the language.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ Speak using very simple phrases and sentences to ask and answer questions in areas of specific need or very familiar topics;
■ Listen to and recognise familiar words and very basic phrases concerning personal information and immediate needs;
■ Read and identify familiar names, words and very simple sentences;
■ Write simple phrases of a personal nature.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
