Short Description

This course will introduce students to writing in prose fiction and poetry. In-class writing exercises and group discussion will enable students to explore various approaches to creative writing. Particular attention will be paid to thematic and structural concerns such as voice and perspective.

Course Aims

This course aims to:

■ Introduce students to a range of structural elements of prose fiction and poetry.

■ Encourage students to develop their own writing in prose fiction and poetry.

■ Build students' confidence in their ability to critically reflect on their own writing.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ Demonstrate knowledge of structures of prose fiction and poetry.

■ Compare and contrast approaches to writing prose fiction and poetry.

■ Apply knowledge of creative writing techniques to their own work.
