The course provides an introduction to the academic study of the English literature focusing on key skills and ideas essential to Level 1 courses in the College of Arts.

Course Aims

To introduce students to the discipline of English Literature and to enable them to develop academic literacies necessary for Level 1 undergraduate study in the College of Arts.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students should be able to:

■ Identify key themes in English literature and analyse the linguistic techniques used to develop these in set texts.

■ Correctly and confidently use the key terminology of literary study.

■ Recognise and construct arguments, in an appropriate academic form, to English literature questions

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
