Fiona and Blair MacKenzie

Supporting Life-Changing Research

As we mark the milestone of 50 years of cancer sciences at the University of Glasgow, we speak with mother and son, Fiona and Blair MacKenzie. Blair received a diagnosis of chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) when he was only 24 years old after struggling with fatigue. In this short film, he and Fiona share their experience of being treated through the University and how they came to be involved with fundraising for cancer sciences.

Head of Cancer Sciences, Professor Chris Halsey, describes the incredible progress that has been made in cancer research and patient care since the foundation of the department in 1974. Professor Halsey highlights the transformative role of philanthropy in driving pioneering research and developing world-leading treatment that has life-changing results.
