Dr Megan Macleod
Dr Megan MacLeod, senior lecturer at the University of Glasgow. Megan has a passion for the immune system and working out how cells communicate with each other to protect us against infectious diseases. Megan’s role is to co-ordinate all the strands of the project, plan some of the classroom activities and help deliver them.
Dr Kerrie Hargrave
Dr Kerrie Hargrave is a research associate at University of Glasgow. After working at the Glasgow science centre during her PhD, Kerrie now has a passion to share what she has learnt during her research on understanding how the immune system fights infections. Kerrie’s role is to plan and deliver the classroom activities.
Dr Matthieu Poyade
Dr Matthieu Poyade is a Research Fellow in the School of Simulation and Visualisation, The Glasgow School of Art, a PhD supervisor, and the pathway leader of the MSc Medical Visualisation and Human Anatomy jointly offered with the University of Glasgow. He is lecturing Volumetric Visualization and Human Computer Interaction and Virtual/Augmented Reality. He is a member of the Executive committee and Secretary of the European Association for Extended Reality – EuroXR. Matt’s role is to lead the design and production of the Co-IMMUNicate App.
Orla McCorry
Orla McCorry, research assistant at the Glasgow School of Art. Orla has a passion for engaging others with science using art and technology. Orla’s role was to develop the tablet app, create the AR animation and incorporate all the children’s artwork.
The Rest of the Team
Anna Cain: P6/7 teacher at Anderston Primary. Anna enjoys bringing professional scientists into her classroom to inspire her pupils to learn about Science and to consider careers in Science in the future. Anna’s role is to make links with the curriculum and to support the delivery of classroom activities.
In 2020, we were ably assisted by two interns, Lois Mason and Natalia Ibagon Sanchez. Lois has gone on to expand her public engagement skills producing a YouTube video to explain the importance of vaccination, and In 2021 started work with the Medical Research Centre- University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research as an Engagement and Communications Assistant. Natalia learnt her lot about working with children during the project and continues to be involved in STEMM public engagement. She is a member of the outreach community, FemEng to promote females in engineering.
Primary 6/7 pupils at Anderston primary: The primary 6/7 pupils are playing a key role in the project. They have tested out activities, co-designed and tested the Co-IMMUNicate App, presented at the Glasgow Science Festival and, from 2022, designed their own engagement activities.
MVLS Engagement Team: The Medical Veterinary and Life Science Public Engagement team provide advice and support to help us fund and deliver the Co-IMMUNicae project.
In 2022, our interns were Sara Ibgui, an immunology student at the University of Glasgow Sophia Di Piazza, a Medical student at the University of Glasgow and Euan Brennan, an undergraduate student at the University of York who spent the year in the lab with us.
