Success stories

Since 2002 we have substantially increased our commitment and activity to make the University of Glasgow’s academic expertise accessible to SMEs in Scotland.

We have one of the largest research bases in the UK, but Scottish businesses have historically been slow to tap into the benefits available to them from universities, while academics haven’t always seen the benefits of working with businesses.

Over the last few years we been successful in creating mutually-beneficial relationships between the two.

To date our Business Development Managers have supported and advised over 200 new businesses and 65 existing businesses, with over 50 new jobs created.  A total of 1,600 new links have been created between the University and SMEs and research institutions.

Our team has extensive experience of a wide range of funding opportunities and can provide guidance  on the most appropriate sources of finance for each specific project. An example of such funding is the UK government grant-aided initiative Knowledge Transfer Partnership Scheme (KTP) which supports collaborative research and development projects.

We hope the following case studies will highlight the many benefits which businesses can can gain from working with the University and also provide an understanding of some of the initiatives which are available to help fund your work with us.
