Making Videos with Microsoft

The Office 365 suite of tools can be used to make for three types of videos:

  • Narrated PowerPoint presentations
  • Videos hosted on Stream
  • Videos edited with Microsoft Video Editor

Edit and Export a Narrated Presentation

This section shows how to edit a previously recorded narrated PowerPoint presentation and how to export it as a video that can be uploaded to Moodle or shared in other ways.

By recording your PowerPoint presentation, you can capture your voice and visual presence, use onscreen annotation tools, and share it with your learners so they can access it in their own time and at their own speed.

The audio and video recording for each slide are synchronised so they can review specific slides if they like. It is also possible to add new slides, change, and/or remove them, by working on the original file.

This document assumes you have already been able to record a narrated PowerPoint. Instructions are available on the Microsoft support site: Record a slide show with narration and slide timings.

It is recommended to upload the video to Moodle by using Kaltura – this will autogenerate captions, the video can be embedded in your Moodle page, and interactive elements added if desired.

Install and Use Microsoft Video Editor

Microsoft Video Editor is a native Windows 10 app that can be used to edit videos by combining different video clips, inserting still images, and adding titles and text to the video.

It is contained within Microsoft Photos. If the app is not already on your computer, it can be installed for free from Microsoft Store.
