As part of the COP26 activities at the School of Interdisciplinary Studies (renamed as the School of Social and Environmental Sustainability from July 2023), a bespoke video competition, Tackling Climate Change – Youth in Action, was held in the University of Glasgow-Nankai University Joint Graduate School (JGS) in China. From July to September 2021, all JGS students in the MSc Environmental Science programme participated in the planning, video shooting and production processes, and finally 5 student groups submitted their videos. Through these video clips, the students expressed their opinions and concerns on climate change by taking immediate climate actions, building climate resilience, and reducing carbon emissions. The video challenge was run in the format of online videos and presentations, and co-funded by the School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Nankai University College of Environmental Science and Engineering.

All videos were showcased during the past event COP26: Climate Action in South Scotland. This free event, which took place in Dumfries on Saturday 6th November from 10am – 4pm, included interactive demonstrations, experiments, family activities and a programme of speakers made up of over 40 academic staff and invited guests. Watch the vidoes and live streams of the event here.

This video competition is important to raise awareness of climate change issues within a global context and to improve current practices of sustainability by working with our partners and communities closely, which is in line with the goals of College Sustainability IRT team. We recommend watching the Introduction video and the 1st place of the competition named “#1.5℃Youth Action”
