UKRI's Strategy 2022-2027 includes cross-cutting themes which will provide a focus for interdisciplinary and cross-council opportunities (around £75M research funding earmarked for each theme). These themes include Building a Secure and Resilient World. We expect further calls for research projects in this theme over the next year, and expect that these will require interdisciplinary teams spanning multiple research council remits.
In September 2023, we ran an initial online workshop to understand the interest in this area. Attendees requested we organise a series of in person workshops addressing the five topics identified by UKRI under this theme. This second session will focus on the following questions:
How can we increase the resilience of supply chain to a wide variety of potentially interacting shocks?
How can we use technologies/innovation to advance the capacity of state defence and security, economy and society to reduce vulnerabilities, respond to and recover from shocks?
We will have dedicated discussion space for both topics: you are welcome to "stay" with one topic for the whole session, or split your time across both.
Our aim is to provide an opportunity for people to connect with one another, recognising there are funding opportunities on the horizon, but without the time pressure of a specific call.
More details about the UKRI overarching theme and sub-themes here.
Attendees are asked to commit to attending the entire event, be ready to introduce themselves very briefly and contribute actively to discussions.
Tea and coffee will be provided.
Please note: This event is open to University of Glasgow staff only and will take place in-person only.
This event is part of the SpARC initiative: A programme of activities delivered in partnership between Research Services and the ARC to encourage and support the ideation and development of new research and collaborations.
