Glasgow Climate Change and Health Network
We are a diverse community of researchers, from across the university of glasgow, committed to exploring the interlinkages between climate change and health.
Climate change has significant implications for human health. Rising global temperatures, extreme weather events and changing ecosystems contribute to various health risks.
Climate change impacts disproportionately affect marginalized communities, exacerbating existing health and social inequalities. Taking climate action can mitigate health risks and protect vulnerable populations.
- Increasing heatwaves lead to heat exhaustion, heatstroke, and exacerbate existing health conditions.
- Poorer air quality is associated with respiratory issues, cardiovascular problems, and other respiratory diseases.
- Changes in agricultural productivity can produce food shortages and malnutrition.
- Changes in temperature, rainfall patterns and flood increase the spread of vector - and waterborne infectious diseases like malaria, dengue fever and cholera.
