Youth-led peace: The role of youth in peace processes
Protracted conflict can have significant negative impacts on the development and wellbeing of young people. This demographic is faced with limited access to education and health, as well as job and income opportunities. Witnessing violence and living in fear can have long term impacts on their mental health. Crises also leave young people more vulnerable to abuse and exploitation. Despite being deeply affected by conflict young people are valuable agents of positive change in their societies. They often act as mediators and negotiators, provide support to peers, and advocate for human rights. However, many factors still hinder young people’s participation in peacebuilding. This report presents the findings from a series of consultations with youth led peacebuilding organisations. It highlights the important role young people play as peacebuilders and provides recommendations to promote youth inclusive peace processes.
