PGR Opportunities Hub: Training and development

The College of Social Sciences in collaboration with the University's Researcher Development Team University provide a broad range of personal and professional development support for our postgraduate research students. This training and experience will support you to develop the skills required to be a successful researcher as laid out in the Research Councils' Researcher Development Framework. These skills are valuable to a range of careers both within and outside academia.

In the College of Social Sciences this support is coordinated and communicated through the PGR Opportunities Hub. This page outlines the full range of training and development opportunities delivered by the Graduate School, the central University Researcher Development Team, and your own School. These opportunities range from research methods and broader transferable skills training, to internships, conferences, teaching and student-led activities and competitions.

The UK Research Councils' recommend that postgraduate research students undertake the equivalent of 10 days (70 hours) of researcher development opportunities each year. The courses and opportunities linked to from these pages will help you to meet this requirement and also develop yourselves both professionally and personally. Your participation in all training and development opportunities should be recorded and discussed at your Annual Progress Review.
