Early Career Development Programme (ECDP)
Compulsory Courses
1. PGCAP - Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (online)
The PGCAP is central to the structure of the ECDP. Both R&T and LTS staff on the ECDP should apply for a place on the PGCAP within a few months of taking up the post. Completion of the PGCAP normally takes around 2 years of part-time study.

60 credit SCQF Level 11 programme requiring 40 credits at Phase 1 plus 2 optional courses at Phase 2.
The option exists to progress from the PGCAP to PGDIP (PGCAP + 60 further credits) or to MEd in Academic Practice (PGDIP + 60 credits). For more information on progression options go to MEd course page.
2. Research Integrity
This course is mandatory for all ECDP participants. It is recommended you undertake this course as soon as possible.
As a research-led institution, the University of Glasgow is committed to providing an environment that ensures our research is conducted to the highest quality standards.
3. Supervisor training
All ECDP participants should undertake this training unless they have already undertaken training via the Graduate School in the last 4 years.

Optional Courses
In addition to the compulsory courses, you have the flexibility to undertake optional courses and training best suited to your individual needs and interests, whether you are focused on the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning or Researcher Development.
Review of Objectives
During your probationary period, you will meet regularly with your line manager to review objectives and to discuss your ongoing development options.
Beyond the probationary period, you will review objectives with your line manager in an annual review (in keeping with the Performance and Development Review process)
Whatever your focus, the College encourages you to choose options from across the three central pillars:
(1) Research, Knowledge Exchange and Impact,
(2) Learning, Teaching and Scholarship,
(3) Management, Leadership and Personal Effectiveness;
in keeping with objectives set in your Personal Development Plan.
New to ECDP?
As a newly appointed member of academic staff at Grade 7 or 8, on an open-ended contract, and on either the R&T or the LTS track, you will meet with your line manager shortly after appointment to discuss:
- ECDP induction
- allocation of a mentor
- target setting (Personal Development Plan - PDP - and probation)
- PG Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) (see Compulsory Courses section below)
- ECDP University Strategy and Networking Event
- general questions relating to participation in the ECDP.
